Making people laugh is what these three actors know best, and that’s where Volkswagen has put their bet on too. We’re not the biggest fans of the Starz sitcom Party Down starring Adam Scott, but if we were to guess, we’d say that’s where the German automaker got their inspiration from for this new commercial.
Party Down was about a group of caterers in Los Angeles as they hope to make it in Hollywood, and it would seem Adam Scott somehow reprised his role in this commercial. While Ant-Man actor Michael Pena wasn’t invited to the party, both Superbad actor Christopher Mintz and Scott are talking about the event on the German automaker’s new smartphone integration technology, App-Connect. The new advertising campaign also highlights the brand’s all-new infotainment system.
The campaign kicks off with two 30-second television commercials, title “Part” and “Sorry” starring the three actors. In each spot, they navigate the app by utilizing voice commands, the vehicle’s touchscreen, and steering wheel controls.
Apart from the visuals, the campaign also includes a series of digital and social media advertisements, so you should expect to see the guys again everywhere. Here's what Volkswagen has to say about their new feature:
“The new App-Connect system creates a seamless integration of compatible smartphones, via three interfaces—Apple CarPlay®, Android Auto™, and MirrorLink®. Offering new levels of convenience and integrated with Volkswagen’s available second-generation MIB II infotainment system, App-Connect allows drivers to stay connected to information from their smart devices while remaining focused on the road ahead.”
Now, whether or not you like the guys and their sense of humor, you should know the app won’t help you much if you’re a Touareg or an Eos driver. However, according to the carmaker, App-Connect will be available for more than 75 percent of 2016 Volkswagen models sold in the U.S. The first to have it integrated are 2016 Tiguan and Golf R.
