British automaker and GM subsidiary Vauxhall has taken the wraps off its new VXR8 GTS high-performance sedan. Based on sister company HSV’s newly-released Gen-F GTS, the VXR8 greets its future UK customers with no less than 576 bhp under its bonnet.
Priced at £54,999, only £5,000 more expensive than the outgoing model, the new VXR8 GTS gets its power from a supercharged LSA V8 engine, which is identical to the one recently fitted to the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1. Performance figures have yet to be released, but the GTS will undoubtedly be more faster that the previous iteration.
Thanks to it’s amazing 576 bhp, the Vauxhall VXR8 GTS is now more powerful than its main class rivals, having 24 bhp over the BMW M5 and 27 bhp more when compared to the Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG.
“The very fact that cars like the VXR8 GTS still exist proves that there is a small, but immensely passionate band of customers out there who want to drive something which is unique and special,” said Stuart Harris, Vauxhall’s Head of Carline Brand. “In its new GTS form the VXR8 offers colossal power and torque in a package that is more technology-led than ever before, yet still retains that unique VXR8-character that no BMW or Mercedes can match. It’s also around £20k less than its main rivals – the M5 and E63 AMG – yet has more power than either.”
The new Vauxhall VXR8 GTS now comes with several technology features as standard, including Side Blind Zone Alert, Automatic Park Assist, Front/Rear Park Assist, Reversing Camera, Head Up Display, Forward Collision Alert and Lane Departure Warning.
