New Truck Maker NC2 Global Enter Brasil

NC2 Global, a 50/50 joint venture between Caterpillar and Navistar, announced today it has launched operations in Brasil, where it will assemble and distribute commercial trucks under both the International and Cat brands. The new, expanded product line will include more than 15 models, ranging from 10T to 74T GCW, with engines ranging from 180 hp to over 500 hp.

The company plans to have a total of over 60 outlets in Brasil by 2015. The network already has five operating locations and will have a total of 10 by year-end.

The investment will be of about US$200 million for the purchase of equipment, research and development of new technologies, and the hiring and training of employees. Additional investment for construction of new assembly plant will be the subject of a future announcement.

“We’re delighted to be entering the Brasilian market, which is one of our priority markets worldwide and will be the center of our future distribution efforts in the Mercosur,” said Al Saltiel, NC2 president. “We have already begun investing in long-term expansion projects in Brasil, which will include domestic production of trucks this year and launching an all-new, state-of-the-art cabover platform in 2012.”

Also, NC2 will invest US$10 million in expanding the assembly line at the current Navistar operation in Caxias do Sul (RS), with plans to create 150 jobs in the plant by 2011.

“Our long-term commitment to Brasil includes manufacturing expansion, job creation and the development of a network of partners who are trained to provide quality service for our vehicles and brands, country-wide,” Saltiel said.

NC2 Global developed, manufactured and distributed commercial trucks globally, outside North America and India.
