New Toyota Supra Chases Nissan 370Z in Nurburgring Testing Assault

The Japanese engineers are currently completing the final development stage of the Mk V Supra at the Nurburgring. And, as this summer's crash proved, the prototypes are taken beyond the limit.

The rumor mill talks about the Supra borrowing a pair of BMW motors. The base unit will be a 2-liter turbo-four with 265 hp, while there will also be a turbocharged 3.0-liter straight six with around 340 hp.

Forum chat also mentions a hybrid at the top of the range, but we haven't received too many clues on the matter.

Now, all this Supra talk might have you wondering what the 2019 Z4 is doing. And we'll remind you that Bavarian engineers are still polishing the final details of the roadster after its official introduction.

In fact, we delivered a piece of Ring footage showcasing the Bimmer earlier this month. The test vehicle in question is a Z4 M40i, which delivers... at least 340 hp.

Keep in mind that the German automotive producer still hasn't released the official numbers of the sportscar.

And while the fact that the M Division has placed its badges on a wider range of vehicles might make you expect a Z4 M, we wouldn't hold our breath for it.

BMW has dropped multiple hints on not willing to go above the M Performance level mentioned above. As it turns out, selling sportscars isn't exactly facile, which is why the Germans teamed up with Toyota in the first place.

So if you were hoping for a Bavarian open-top machine whose output would start with a "4", you're better off waiting for the next-gen M4 Cabriolet - the platform of the model, which obviously enters the market via the 3 Series Sedan, is set to land soon, with the G20 3er set to land this fall.
