In the US, you got the Camry; in Europe though, you find the Avensis, which is about the same size but lacks its American cousin’s success due to its boring looks and bland interior. Soon that may change, as a new model is in the works, which at least will change the visual part.
Our spy photographers managed to capture a well camouflaged Toyota Avensis Tourer somewhere in Southern Europe. It doesn’t appear to be a whole new model, but follow the same treatment as the Camry received recently - strip some of the boring parts and fit something more attractive.

Which is why the front end appears to look very different from how the Avensis rolled with so far, with its large headlamps and broad grille spreading all over the place. It now has a more “keen” face, with narrower headlamps, a slimmer upper grille that is continued into the headlamps and bonnet design, while the lower trapezoidal grille appears to have also shrunk its dimensions.

The rear, on the other hand, looks barely changed, with only the taillamps appearing to have been redesigned a bit. Still, this could be an early prototype not wearing all the new parts. Same goes for the side profile.

In its fourth generation now, the car came to market in 2009 and after its facelift, the Avensis now closes onto its sixth year, calling for a major change. Still, we don’t think it will wear the new TNGA platform yet. As we said above, it might go the same way with the Camry, which will also include refreshed mechanics and insulations.

The built-in-England Avensis starts at £18,750, being able to escalate up to £26,145 without optional features. Three engines are offered depending on the grade chosen, a 1.8-liter gasoline making 147 hp, a 2.0-liter diesel good for 124 and a 2.2-liter putting out 150 hp.
