New toy for rich and spoiled

If you have a six figures or more bank account you might be interested to know that the new Rolls-Royce Phantom Drophead Coupe will be presented at the Geneva Motor Show this week. You can get a glimpse of the new model, but to drive it you will have to wait some more because production will begin at the Rolls-Royce manufacturing facility in the UK in the summer.

Even though Rolls-Royce is a brand that stands for elegance and class, the Phantom Drophead Coupe has a few sporty aspects, mainly because of its 6.75 liter naturally aspirated V12 engine, which can make the car go from 0 to 100 km in just 5.7 seconds. But don't get your hopes up for driving one even if you have the money. Take a look at what Graeme Grieve, Sales and Marketing Director, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars has to say :

“The reaction to the Drophead Coupé has been phenomenal. This year’s production has already been allocated and there are currently only a few built slots left in 2008. We are delighted that more than half of the orders are from customers who have never owned a Rolls-Royce before, so the new model is significantly expanding the appeal of our products.”

Among the special features of the vehicle, there is the fabric hood - the largest of any modern convertible car. It uses five layers of material so the “royalty” inside doesn't get wet. I can't imagine someone who can afford a drophead Rolls who doesn't have another car, an SUV or something, for those rainy days. Maybe if he or she gets caught in the rain, he or she will use the car's hood and then the 5 layers of insulation if needed.
