Touring and Superleggera. Two words that go together like a hand in a glove. The Italian coachbuilder founded in Milan in 1925 is known for countless classics such as the Aston Martin DB5, Lancia Flaminia GT, the first-ever Lamborghini, and the Maserati 3500 GT among many more.
The current owners took control of the company in 2006 following, and since then, we’ve been treated to coachbuilt exotica such as the Alfa Romeo Disco Volante Spyder and a re-bodied Maserati GranTurismo. Not long now, Touring Superleggera will add the Berlinetta Aero to the tally.

Teased on social media and the company’s website, the “big reveal” should take place at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in July 2020. However, the FoS has been postponed over the health crisis to a yet-to-be-determined date. The mystery car, therefore, is pretty much confirmed to roll off the line as a 2021 model year instead of 2020.

Officially designated “Touring Berlinetta Aero,” the two-door coupe with period-correct styling appears to take plenty of styling cues from the Alfa Romeo 8C 2900B Speciale Le Mans. Design aside, the long-hooded coupe’s biggest mystery is what hides underneath the body panels.

Being inspired by an Alfa Romeo, the most likely candidate for the chassis and powertrain is the Giulia rear-wheel-drive sedan. The Aston Martin DBS Superleggera that pays tribute to the British automaker’s relationship with Touring should be taken into consideration as well.

The Maserati Quattroporte could be a candidate too, but frankly, nobody knows what the Italian coachbuilder has up its sleeve. If we take the Giulia Quadrifoglio as the basis, then the Berlinetta Aero would feature more than 500 ponies from a twin-turbo V6 with plenty of Ferrari know-how.

What’s known as the Giulia GTA is the most powerful road-going Alfa Romeo ever, featuring 540 PS (533 horsepower) as opposed to 510 PS (503 horsepower) for the Quadrifoglio on which it’s based. At the other end of the spectrum, the DBS Superleggera packs a 5.2-liter twin-turbo V12 with 725 PS (715 horsepower) on deck.
