The new Top Gear team is working on the new season, but they are also trying to provide extra content for viewers.
The BBC has found a solution to achieve this without extending the air time of the famous motoring show, which now features an entirely new team.

They call it Extra Gear, and it will bring behind-the-scenes footage to the fans. In a way, this would be the new team’s attempt of replicating the famous antics of the Clarkson-Hammond-May trio, but with a twist.

Instead of just showing viewers what went wrong while filming, Extra Gear will be a spin-off show, which will be filmed at the famous Top Gear Studio immediately after the main show. Rory Reid has been chosen as the presenter for it.

Viewers will be able to watch the new show on BBC Three, or with the aid of the BBC iPlayer right after Top Gear aires on BBC Two.

The British media giant has also thought about viewers from the rest of the world, as these will be able to watch the “Extra Gear” on BBC America and BBC Brit, Top Gear informs.

Rory Reid has stated that he is excited to give Top Gear fans “a peek behind the curtain” of the new Top Gear series. Reid is aware of the fact that Top Gear fans are “some of the keenest in the world,” but this might also be linked to the charm of the former team.

The original cast was formed by Jeremy Clarkson, James May, and Richard Hammond, who are now working on a car show for Amazon Prime. For now, neither of the Top Gear teams (old or new) has completed and aired an episode. Instead, it was all about social media hype, as well as scandals caused by both parties, but not interlinked.

According to a previous interview for Top Gear, Rory Reid currently drives a 1.0-liter EcoBoost-engined Ford Focus. His first car was a 1989 Vauxhall (Opel, in the rest of Europe) Astra GTE 16v, but he also owned a Yugo.
