New Teen Safe Driving Campaign Launched

With the mind on the summer days ahead, days that will undoubtedly be filled with teens driving from one vacation spot to another, American Traffic Solutions and Scottsdale's Driving MBA Driver Training School announced the launch of yet another teen safe driving campaign, meant to educate and inform the young drivers.

The focus of the campaign will be red-light running, one of the major causes for death and injuries in the cities across the nation. What's worse is that, according to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), 10 percent of red-light runners involved in fatal crashes in 2009 were teenagers.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) on the other hand says that teens are involved in three times more fatal crashes that more experienced or older drivers. The statistics show an increase in casualties in the summer days. From May to August, the road death toll among teens doubles, reaching an average of 16 crashes each day (usually, that number is nine crashes each day).

The Department of Transportation found that vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for 15- to 20-year-olds, with more than 5,000 young drivers being killed on the roads each year.

To support the campaign, the two organizations involved have created a series of education materials that are available online at this link.

"Many teens are inexperienced drivers, and it's our responsibility as instructors and educators to deliver programs and knowledge that build confidence behind the wheel and ultimately increase safety," said Maria Wojtczak, founder of Driving MBA.
