New T6 Volkswagen Transporter Reveals More Interior Details in Latest Spyshots

While the all-new B8 Passat has all eyes on Volkswagen these days, the automaker’s Commercial Vehicles division is working to complete the development of another model that has brought VW a place in the history books, the Transporter.

The T6 generation of Volkswagen’s van is currently in the advanced development stages and the latest spyshots reveal more of its interior, namely the dashboard. A comparison with the current T5 facelift Transporter reveals that the Germans went for “bigger is better”.

Let’s take the instrument cluster, for example. This has a more massive appearance and the same can be said about the climate controls. Perhaps VW has sought inspiration in the US market heavy duty pickup trucks, which offer buttons that can be operated with working gloves on.

This could be a sign that Volkswagen is finally considering bringing the Transporter to America, but nothing official has been announced so far.

This practical cake comes with a glossy icing. Literally. The dash appears to sport an extended trim, something to give the cabin more of an upmarket appeal. Mind you, the gear shift lever has maintained its position high on the center console. Ergonomics come first.

We mustn’t forget that, especially when it comes to the cabin, the T6 will have a pretty hard time battling Mercedes’ new V-Class, as well as the latter blue collar brother, the Vito, which is currently undergoing development.

The T6 prototypes continue to be shrouded in mystery - while the camouflaged front and rear ends are obviously new, the rest of the vehicle’s body appears to be identical to that of the current Transporter. The rumor mill indicates Volkswagen could release the T6 as yet another evolution of the T5, while the aforementioned changes would be aimed at helping the vehicle meet the pedestrian safety regulations that the European Union is scheduled to enforce in 2020.
