Subaru showed the world it could handle rear-wheel drive with the BRZ recently, but what about its more traditional sports vehicles, what fate is in store for the new WRX. Motor Trend has finally come up with an answer to this question, as according to them it will be fitted with a 270 horsepower version of the new 2.0-liter boxer that made its debut with the sports coupe in Tokyo.
As you’ll already know by know, the Toyota GT 86 and Subaru BRZ, as well as their American cousin the Scion FR-S, all produce exactly 200 horsepower from the same unit in its naturally aspirated form. What’s more, this will make the smaller displacement boxer a bit more powerful that the current 2.5-liter in the WRX, which packs 265 hp.

Subaru has stated in the past that both the WRX and the most powerful STI will be differentiated from the Impreza, though both will likely share the platform.
