Up until recently, Subaru and Mitsubishi were really focused on their performance cars, the rally-inspired Impreza STI and the Lancer Evo, but now a lot of that passion seems to be gone (especially at Mitsubishi). However, Subaru seems to have brought it back lately, with its STI claiming records and all.
However, the company will ask you to wait a while if you’re looking to add a fresh STI or WRX badge to the 2012 Subaru Impreza you’re willing to buy.
While the new Impreza is already available, or will be very soon, the STI and WRX versions will still only be available in the old form, as the Japanese carmaker doesn’t plan to offer a new version right now.
According to Car and Driver, we’ll have to wait a few years for Subaru to release new STI and WRX metal. However, while we agree with the first part, we’re not pretty sure about the schedule - since Subaru is going to release a new turbocharged 300 hp STI engine next year, it will probably come wrapped in a fresh car.
