Daimler changed a great deal of things about its Fortwo micro vehicles. However, they left the wheelbase and overall length of the car alone, so it's still very easy to park in tight spaces and quite maneuverable… just like a scooter or motorcycle.
An advertising agency from Spain called Contrapunto BBDO decided to take that idea a step further. They created a print ad campaign called "Moto," which shows 2-wheelers painted onto the side of the vehicle in an artsy kind of way.
The 2015 Smart Fortwo is the smallest car made by a European company and has a very impressive turning radius. Using the same architecture as the Renault Twingo 3, they designed a 2-seater car that's noticeably wider than before, which results in more elbowroom.
Unlike a motorcycle, you have a roof over your head all the time, and the cargo space is of a decent size, considering how small the Fortwo is. However, all is not perfect. When we tested the car a few months ago, we found out that the ride is uncomfortably harsh. You also share the cabin with the engines, which can make life noisy.
Another niggle we had is the gigantic doors that are almost as long as the car, which makes opening them in car parks tricky.
Two types of engine are available with the Smart Fortwo, both with only three cylinders. The base unit is a 1-liter and makes either 60 or 71 PS. Renault is also providing its 0.9 TCe turbo. Rated at 90 PS, this is the one to get if you want your town car to have vigor.
Prices for the Fortwo start at €10,335, but we'd avoid the entry-level car. If you can afford to do so, order yours with distinctive colors like "Vulcano Orange" and spec the excellent touchscreen infotainment.
