Just over a week ago, the Internet was hit by a horrible rumor, as Car and Driver reported that Audi would not offer an RS version for the current generation of the A4.
Day after day, our worries increased as we were waiting for a rumor that would kill the previous one. Fortunately, the wait is now over. According to Autovisie Magazine via 4wheelnews.com, Audi is already working on a new RS4, with the vehicle scheduled to hit the market within the next two years.
The source adds that the insider who offered Car and Driver the heart-breaking info is not directly linked with the development, while an executive subsequently confirmed that the car will indeed be built.
Unfortunately, nobody has bothered to offer us any details of the vehicle - this would’ve tipped the balance towards the happy scenario.
Of course, this now seems to be a battle of the sources so it’s hard to tell who is right. Or is it? The original statement showed that Audi would not build a new RS as the automotive producer saw the RS5 as being enough to also cover the first’s market share.
However, this doesn’t make sense, as the two vehicles are targeted at different niche segments. However, Audi’s execs might think otherwise, so we’ll have to wait, pray and see. While we do that, we’re inviting you to check our story about an RS4 UTE - this is a virtual tuning project of course.
