New Rendering: BMW Z2

A while ago, some reports on the internet said that BMW is looking to add a sleekly styled front wheel drive roadster to its line-up, starting with 2015. That really got our curiosity going.

BMW already has this kind of a vehicle on the market through the MINI Cooper S Roadster but that car is sold under a MINI badge. The new Z2 would be almost a purebred BMW.

We used the term "almost" because the new roadster will have front wheel drive, becoming one of the first BMWs to have this kind of transmission as a standard. Of course this model will be frowned upon because of its transmission system but that doesn't mean it won't be popular.

It will all depend on how good the car will be. This model will be targeted at the niche right below the Z4 roadster and is supposed to be a tough competitor for the Mazda MX-5.

From the info we can gather at the moment, we're pretty sure that if this model will ever come to life, it will be based on the same UKL1 platform on which the future MINIs will be built.

Also, in order to be competitive with the MX-5 the prices will have to be a lot lower the ones of the Z4. To do that, the Z2 will have to have a manual, fabric hood and some other cost saving features.
