The forth generation of the iconic Renault Clio, first launched in 1990, has been revealed in full by French carmaker Renault. The car stands out with its bold design, chrome accents and muscular shoulders and appears to debut a completely new design language for Renault.
New Renault Clio was conceived as a piece of sensuous sculpture which stimulates desire. Like muscles, its curves express the dynamism radiated by the DeZir concept car. No acute or aggressive angles, just voluptuous curves that make you want to go up to it and caress it,” says Laurens van den Acker (Senior Vice-President, Corporate Design) about the styling of the car.

The car will be sold only as a five-door, the designers have integrated integrated rear door handles concealed close to the rear quarter lights. There will also be a choice of eight body colors, including the new Flamme Red, which is derived from the color used by the DeZir concept.

The car is available with Renault R-Link system, which centers around a 7-inch touchscreen which offers traffic information, navigation and entertainment. The entire New Clio range features Bluetooth equipped radios for hands-free telephoning and audio streaming from portable music devices.

Renault revealed that the Clio will be available with three very interesting engines. First, there’s the TCe 90 petrol three-cylinder, a 900 cc unit that replaces a normally aspirated 1.4-liter powertrain. This delivers 90 PS and 135 Nm of toque. The economy-optimized version of the engine consumes only 4.3-liters of fuel and puts only 99 grams of CO2 per kilometer.

The new diesel engine for the car is the 1.5 dCi 90, which now puts out 220 Nm of torque, 20 Nm more than the current dCi 90. The eco2 version comes with fuel consumption of just 3.2 liters/100km, equivalent to CO2 emissions 83g/km.

In certain markets, a base diesel is offered still a 1.5-liter, but this time pushing out only 75 PS and 148 lb-ft (201 Nm) or torque. CO2 emissions levels sit comfortably at 97 grams per kilometer for this version, while fuel economy will be as low as 3.2 l/100 km (74 mpg).

Lastly, there’s the new 1.2 TCe 120, which is a 1.2-liter turbo that replaces the 1.6-liter and has been mated to new six-speed EDC double-clutch automatic transmission.

Mihnea's favorite cars have already been built, the so-called modern classics from the '80s and '90s. He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
