Renault has a lot of pride in the safety of its cars, being the first carmaker to score five Euro NCAP stars with an affordable car. So it’s no surprise the passenger compartment won’t deform in the case of a crash. There are some faults, however, as in the severe side crash against a pole, rip protection was found to be weak.

The Clio scored maximum points for the protection provided to the 18 month dummy in the dynamic impact tests, and the 3-year dummy was also well protected. The passenger airbag can be disabled to allow a rearward-facing restraint to be used in that seating position, and Euro NCAP like that clear information was provided to the driver regarding the status of the airbag.
