New Porsche to Debut in Los Angeles: 911 Cabriolet?

Porsche has just released a press kit saying that they will have two very interesting vehicles at this year’s LA Auto Show later this month. One is the new 911 sportscar that made its debut in Frankfurt and will now make its US unveiling for the first time (according to Porsche, but it was present at the Rennsport Reunion IV).
The other car Porsche mentions is supposed to be a brand new one that’s making a world premiere. This really got us scratching our heads and pondering what it could be. The only clue is that they say it’s got “impressive performance and dynamic looks, exuding unadulterated driving pleasure.”

The only cars that are supposed to be coming from Porsche in the next half a year are the Panamera facelift, the Boxster and probably the 911 Cabriolet. We don’t think it’s the Panamera, because it doesn’t really fit with the whole “impressive performance” thing, but we could be wrong. As for the Boxster, that should be a 2012 debut that arrives in the summer.

In addition, Porsche mentions both the Panamera and Boxster as belonging to the “rest” of their range: “The rest of Porsche’s show programme is no less attractive either. Visitors will be treated to a cross-section of the product portfolio with the hybrid variants of the Panamera and Cayenne putting on a persuasive performance with their combination of outstanding efficiency and very low emissions and the two seater, mid-engine Boxster and Cayman sports cars thrilling with their uncompromising sportiness.”

Our opinion is swaying toward the 2012 Porsche 911 Cabriolet, because looking at the model cycles of the past, the drop-top is usually launched together with the Carrera to form the base range. This time around, the Germans have come up with a more complicated semi-rigid roof structure, which might have taken them longer to develop. To find out about the trick new roof, check out our previous post here.

Of course, we could be wrong, seeing as previous rumors stated it was going to be launched in Geneva next year. So please tell us if you hear any rumors from the LA streets.
