Coming hot on the tail of the new Boxster, Porsche's official distributor in Malaysia has launched the second generation of the cheapest coupe they make, the 981 model Cayman, as well as the more powerful Cayman S.
While it may be the cheapest Porsche coupe, it's still a very expensive car. Prices in Malaysia start at RM500,000 for the Cayman, equivalent to $166,500 at today's exchange rate. That's more than triple the $52,600 the US customer pays for the exact same car.
The base Cayman gets a 2.7-liter flat-six engine that pushes out 275 hp at 7,400 rpm and 290 Nm between 4,500 and 6,500 rpm. With the optional PDK box, that's enough to reach 100 km/h in 5.4 seconds.
On the other hand, the Cayman S is a much more powerful sportscar, making 325 hp from a 3.4-liter engine shared with the 911 Carrera. It's available in Malaysia as well, but the RM610,000 asking price is enough to make us cry, as those Malaysian Ringgits average out at a massive $203,000 at today's exchange rate.
