For-wheel steering is something for forklifts, rally cars and long busses, right? Well no, it’s been done in pickups, Renault put it on the Laguna and now Porsche might use it as well.
A report from German magazine Auto Bild says the next generation Porsche 911 Turbo, built on the new 991 architecture, will have four-wheel steering. The car will likely use just a few degrees of steering angle for the back wheels to make it turn in faster than before.
Little else is known about the system, but the new Turbo should be ready for its debut in the fall of 2013, so the wait shouldn’t be too long.
The other major change with the 991 Turbo is that lag will be virtually killed out through the use of a tri-turbo system on the 3.8-liter flat-six to produce anywhere up to 550 hp.
The Ferrari 458 Italia might be in trouble, because the new 911 Turbo will be a fraction faster, getting from zero to 100 km/h in just 3.3 seconds.
