New Porsche 911 Turbo Cabriolet (992) Spotted in The Wild, Debut Imminent

The Turbo incarnation of the 992-gen Porsche 911 is one of the industry's worst-kept secrets. And this is not just about the Capital T derivative's obvious role in the Neunelfer lineup. Instead, we must also consider the fact that eighth-gen Turbo test cars have been spotted testing for quite a while now.

The 2021 Porsche 911 Turbo will make its debut by the end of the year. As for the market arrival of the rear-engined beast, the rumor mill talks about customer deliveries being scheduled to kick off next April.

Speaking of prototype sighting, the social media post at the bottom of the page allows us to see a 992 Turbo Cabriolet, with this having been spotted close to the mother ship in Zuffenhausen.

Judging by the somewhat crude details on the rear valance, this is one of the earlier test cars - here's how the production details look on newer prototypes.

The Turbo Cabriolet has been photographed while parked next to a Carrera S Cabriolet (this could always be a base Carrera Cabriolet, since the starting point of the lineup should debut soon).

And while it could be difficult to judge from this image alone, it does seem like the posterior of the Turbo will be even fatter than that of the Carrera (the 992 generation has brought more generous tracks for the latter). Of course, the engine cover of the T might also be different in showroom spec.

The German engineers are hiding the tech side of the supercar in plain sight. Well, you can expect the automaker to come up with an all-new engine for the Turbo, as part of having to comply with ever-stricter emission regulations. Nevertheless, you can expect at least 600 ponies for the Turbo.

For instance, Porsche has recently developed a fresh 4.0-liter N/A flat-six for the 718 Cayman GT4/718 Spyder, with this having used the TT 3.0-liter boxer of the Carrera S as a starting point.

Of course, the new eight-speed PDK transmission will receive a Turbo-specific tune, with this hopefully including a more aggressive mode compared to what the Carrera S implementation has to offer.

As for the Turbo S, this is targeted by the wildest forum chat out there: the ".2" mid-cycle revamp of the 992 might bring us the Turbo S E-Hybrid, a monster will north of 700 hp.
