What do the upcoming 992 Porsche 911 Turbo and G80 BMW M3 have in common? Well, aside from packing TT six-cylinder motors, these two slabs of Germany have another common feature: their prototypes hold plenty of secrets, with these probably being hidden in plain sight.
The new Neunelfer Turbo is expected to make its debut by the end of the year, with a leaked picture that portrays the super-sedan inside the factory letting us know what to expect.
As for the G30 generation's range-topper, the G80 M3 will bow next year, at least is we are to pay attention to the latest reports.
In fact, you can check out the 992 Turbo Cabriolet chasing the G80 M3 at the 2:23 point of the spy clip below - the rest of the footage (we're talking Nurburgring shenanigans here) is dedicated to the super-sedan.
We know the next M3 will be animated by the new 3.0-liter twin-turbo straight-six that made its debut on the 2019 X3 M and X4 M, with the unit delivering 510 hp in Competition trim.
Then again, we're still not sure the 2021 BMW M3 will make use of AWD. Hopefully, it will, with the recipe including a RWD-only driving mode, as is the case with the F90 M5.
And while a two-pedal setup is a certainty, the Bavarian automotive producer is expected to also offer the M3 with a stick shift.
When it comes to the 992 Turbo, Porsche might retire the 3.8-liter twin-turbo boxer of the 991.2. In the quest to cope with ever-stricter emission regulations, the Germans could introduce an all-new engine. For instance, this is what happened with the 718 Cayman GT4, which is powered by a fresh N/A 4.0-liter flat-six based on the TT 3.0-liter unit of the 992 Carrera S.
As for the Turbo S, this might become the Turbo S E-Hybrid, a gas-electric monster and yet the move might be reserved for the introduction of the ".2" mid-cycle revamp, which is some four years away.
