New Porsche 911 GT3 Touring Package (992) Spotted on Nurburgring: N/A, Manual

The piece of spy footage we have here contains two prototypes and while we can't be certain both are 992 Porsche 911 GT3 Touring Package tester, the one you get to see first definitely shows tons of clues.

For one thing, the center exhaust pipes are a trademark of the GT3, while the front end of the vehicle is still covered. Then there's the lack of a fixed rear wing (here's how such an element looks on the "standard" GT3. However, while the 991.2 GT3 TP came with a Gurney flap on top of the standard Carrera's active wing, the little one doesn't seem to be present here. Nevertheless, this could easily be added en route to production.

More importantly, the soundtrack basically screams GT3 Touring - there's clearly a naturally aspirated flat-six voice here, while it does appear that the gear shifts come from a manual (all 991 Tourings came with a clutch).

While the outgoing 991.2 Touring Package was introduced to keep the 911 R speculators under control (the market had gone crazy, driving prices past the $500,000 point and sending them towards the $1 million mark), it looks like Zuffenhausen won't make us wait for the ".2" mid-cycle revamp (this is coming in three to four years from now) this time around.

With or without the Touring Package, the 992 Porsche 911 GT3 is expected to make its debut next year and the "normal" version means you'll be able to match the RS-grade wing with either a manual or the new 8-speed PDK.

And since Porsche has introduced a new 4.0-liter atmospheric flat-six for the 718 GT4/Spyder, with the unit being loosely based on the TT 3.0-liter engine of the 992 Carrera (S), you can expect a similar development for the next GT3.

Of course, the 420 hp of the mid-engined specials are not nearly enough for the Neunelfer, which is why output should climb past the 500 hp border - isn't it intriguing to be able to listen to the engine and not know its exact specs?
