The rumors around the upcoming Porsche 911 facelift just can’t stop flowing, and this time, we’re back on one of the spiciest topics regarding the 991.2. Wait, the revamp could bring the 992 chassis code, so you can erase that from your memory. Either way, we are discussing the 911 GT3 RS here, namely its Nurburgring mission.
A new report indicates the sharpest member of the 911 family will be able to lap the Nordschleife in 7 minutes and 20 seconds. It doesn’t even matter if that number is a leak on an educated guess, it makes full sense, since the car will be gifted with a plethora of tech upgrades - the PDK gearbox and ZF rear-wheel steering (inherited from the GT3) alone are enough to convince us the thing deserves to be 13 seconds quicker than the 997-generation GT3 RS (we’re talking about the 4.0 here). If you're looking to go deeper into such a comparison, perhaps this video from Sabine Schimtz, nicknamed the Queen of the Nurburgring, may be of assistance.

The aforementioned time also palces the new 911 GT3 RS two seconds ahead of the 997 911 GT2 RS - by the way, we’ll remind you that we may not get a new GT2 RS, but this is another story.

The 7:20 time would place the GT3 RS ahead of many other go-fast machines on the market and yet there’s one problem here. This comes from America, in the form of the 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 GM engineers are still testing. It’s not too wild of us to expect the C7 -generation Z06 to be faster than the C6 ZR1, which lapped the Nurburgring in 7:19.63.

Oh well, at least Porsche has the 918 Spyder, which plays the ‘Ring game in a totally different league and by that we mean a time of 6:57.

We’ll remind you the GT3 RS has leaked thanks to a scale model. Porsche wouldn’t confirm this, but this path of the industry usually works perfectly.

As for the tech side of the driver’s-best-friend 911, the creature will deliver over 500 hp and tip the scales at below 1,400 kg (1,430 lbs). Zuffenhausen could follow the aforementioned 4.0-liter model’s recipe, enlarging the 3.8-liter displacement of the 475 hp GT3 engine to that point.

As for the weight reduction, the GT3 RS will go on a CFRP (carbon fiber reinforced polymer) diet, with the material expected to be used for the hood, roof, fenders and others.

Let’s hope that model moves on to the 1:1 scale at the upcoming Paris Motor Show.
