With the Carrera (4)S incarnation of the 992 Porsche 911 already among us, Porschephiles are eager to meet the upcoming go-faster versions of the Neunelfer. And while the Turbo will be the first to arrive, die-hard aficioandos are perhaps more eager to mee the new GT3.
The Turbo, which has already been showcased via a leaked photo, is set to land later this year. As for the GT3, this is expected to bow next year.

Regardless, prototypes of both 911 derivatives are currently in their final testing stages - for instance, the GT3 you can see in the Instagram post at the bottom of the page has been spotted grabbing lunch at the gas stating in the proximity of the Nurburgring.

The news is brilliant: as showcased by previous test car sightings, the naturally-aspirated flat-six is here to stay. Perpahs the heart of the 992 GT3 is linked to the all-new 4.0-liter flat-six of the 718 Cayman GT4/Boxster Spyder, with the latter having been developed starting from the twin-turbo 3.0-liter boxer of the Carrera S.

Other prototype spottings have shown Porsche engineers testing a manual tranny, so it looks like the stick shift is here to stay. Hopefully, the dark age that was the removal of the clutch for the 991.1 model won't return too soon.

The wider tracks of the eighth-generation model, along with the more generous aero (check out that rear wing) means we have serious reasons to believe the newcomer will become a member of the sub-7 Nurburgring club. For the record, the outgoing car needs 7:12.7 to blitz the infamous German circuit.

The rumor mill talks about the return of the Touring Package, with no-fixed-wing prototypes like this one only adding fuel to the fire. Nevertheless, such specials are usually reserved for the ".2" mid-cycle revamp, which is still three to four years away.
