New Porsche 911 GT2/GT2 RS Spied with Racecar Aero, Expect Monstrous 'Ring Time

Yesterday, we brought you a set of rather unclear spyshots revealing a Porsche 911 prototype. Today we're back with a ton of extra photos, this time with the kind of image quality that allows us to dig deeper into the matter.

We expect the rear-engined coupe you see here to be either the new GT2, or event the GT2 RS. However, while we've already shown you spyshots of the GT2 earlier this year, it would be rather odd (think: too soon) to see the German engineers testing the Rennsport version alongside the "regular" one.

Regardless, we're dealing with a mule, one that starts off with a GT3 RS body: notice the front wing air extractors, as well as the middle section of the luggage compartment lid and roof.

As we mentioned yesterday, Zuffenhausen has strapped massive aerodynamic elements to this prototypes, with most of these appearing to be lifted off the 911 GT3 R racecar (both the 991 and the 997 models).

It all starts on the nose of the prototype, where a massive splitter is joined by dual winglets on each side of the front apron. Moving to the rear of the Neunelfer, we find a wing the side of Germany, but the most important part lies beneath this.

For instance, the side exhaust tips, a GT2/GT2 RS clue, now seem close to production spec. Also, the extra air vents in the rear bumpers, along with the thirstier (compared to the GT3 RS) air intakes up front, point to a turbocharged engine.

Speaking of which, since the 911.2 Turbo S offers 580 hp, you can expect the GT division machine spied here to deliver anywhere between 600 and 700 hp.

In the transmission department, Porsche may have let it slip that the manual is making a comeback on the upcoming 991.2 GT3, but we're not sure whether the GT2/GT2 RS will also receive this treatment, which should involve borrowing the 911 R's six-speed stick shift setup.

And since this prototype was spotted close to the Nurburgring, we'll end this one by reminding you the new Turbo S, which represents the starting point for GT2 machines, can lap the Nordschleife in 7:18.
