Peugeot has been very secretive with its models the past few years, taking way too long in our opinion between the day they show a new car and actually revealing everything about it. The latest example: the new 308 hatch.
Under the new Peugeot naming system, a 308 will always be a 308, as the 3 is now indicative of the market segment and the 8 represents premium qualities. This makes this car a second generation model, but not a lot is known at the moment. With the full reveal scheduled for September, we've been left wanting for more details on this car, details which we've only been able to find in this walkaround presentation video scooped by French publication L'Automobile Magazine.

Present at the official photo shoot, they've captured some of the more interesting aspects of the compact hatchback. A rival for the VW Golf, the Peugeot 308 remains one of the most unusual designs in its class.

L'Automobile Magazine says options on this car will include blind spot detection, a reversing camera and some time in the near future, a double-clutch gearbox just like VW introduced on the Golf in 2004. They also say the engine range will start with a 1.2-liter VTI three-cylinder engine producing just 86 PS and will go up to the 1.6 THP with 200 PS. Two displacement diesel engines versions will be offered, a 1.6 and a 2.0, though many output versions will probably be available and an ultra-frugal version will consume just 3 liters per 100 km/h.

We still don't like it all that much, but the way the parking sensors are arranged on the sides of the wheel arches is pretty cool and the panoramic roof on the outgoing is a big hit around the office. We'll have more Peugeot 308 news later in the day, so stay tuned.

He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
