New Peugeot 308 3-Door Rendering Revealed

Yesterday, French carmaker Peugeot revealed a brand new 308 hatchback built around their latest modular platform and featuring totally different styling. Peugeot can't find enough words of admiration for this car, but we're not completely sold yet.

It's filled with French quarks, like a rev counter that turns from right to left and a steering wheel that seems to spoil you vision of the cluster. But there's also plenty to like as well.

Under the new naming strategy, all Peugeots with "1" at the end are budget cars and ones with "8" are moving into the premium segment. The second-generation 308 thus has all-LED headlights on most trim levels and all-led taillights as standard. We'd expect that from Audi, but not the French.

Peugeot will likely never make a 3-door version of the 308 ever again. Compacts now are too big, and the €500 or so you save by buying two less doors aren't worth the hustle of getting out of the car to let people into the back seats. When Citroen made the second-gen C4, they also dropped the three-door because it didn't fit a new identity they were trying to create.

But just in case you guys are still considering a three-door Peugeot 308, Theophilus Chin has rendered this car to give us an idea of what that might look like. Both the new Golf and Audi A3have such hatchback on sale, but Peugeot is playing catchup and we think they'd much rather use the development money on something else.
