New Peugeot 3008 GT Hybrid4 Comes With 13.2-kWh Battery, e-AWD

The thing with hybrids is that all-electric range is insufficient for the daily drive to work and back home. This is where plug-in hybrids excel thanks to bigger batteries as it’s the case with the 13.2 kWh of capacity that Peugeot gave the 3008 GT Hybrid4.

A compact crossover built upon the Groupe PSA EMP2 vehicle architecture, the Peugeot combines a 1.6-liter turbo four-cylinder engine up front with an electric motor driving the rear wheels. If you were wondering, the e-AWD and combined output of 300 PS (296 horsepower) translates to 6.5 seconds from naught to 100 km/h (62 mph).

All-electric range? The 3008 GT Hybrid4 can manage 58 kilometers (36 miles) in this driving mode, and a complete charge is possible in less than two hours as long as you connect to a 7-kW charging station. The WLTP-rated fuel economy and CO2 emissions are also impressive, namely 1.6 liters per 100 kilometers and 29 grams per kilometer.

Peugeot is developing a FWD version as well as we speak, totaling 225 PS (221 horsepower) and heaven knows how many miles in the electric-only setting. As for the 3008 GT Hybrid4, standard features include aged oak wood, Alcantara upholstery finished in Greval Grey, as well as adaptive cruise control with stop & go and Lane Positioning Assist.

The French automaker makes a case for the packaging of the plug-in hybrid system, claiming that the electrified rear axle doesn’t have an impact on roominess or trunk volume. In other words, the 3008 GT Hybrid4 could be used as a family car with seating for five and a weekend's worth of luggage.

David Peel, managing director of Peugeot in the UK, is rather pleased about the newcomer. Described as the next step in the automaker’s electrification journey, this fellow “will join the all-new e-208 and e-2008 SUV, and follows our philosophy of choose your Peugeot, choose your powertrain.”

To be introduced in the rest of Europe in October 2019, the 3008 GT Hybrid4 is already available to order in France. The compact crossover with plug-in hybridization will set you back €53,800, more than 10,000 euros more than the same trim level specified with the BlueHDI 180 S&S EAT8.
