New Opel Meriva Coming Next Summer

Opel and Vauxhall will debut the new Meriva next summer, after the model was delayed by the financial problems encountered by the parent manufacturers. The car will be unveiled at the Geneva Auto Show in March 2010, autocar.co.uk wrote, and is projected to arrive in authorized dealerships in June.

For model year 2011, the manufacturer prepared a refreshed front fascia, with some elements inspired by the new Opel Astra, which is expected to go on sale in 2010 as well. But even so, the car still uses some design cues from the concept revealed at the 2007 Geneva Motor Show. In short terms, the revised model will boast redesigned headlights and tail lamps, both of them contributing to the overall sporty appearance of the car.

As for the engines, the new Meriva might borrow some powerplants from the new Astra lineup. A naturally aspirated 1.4-liter unit as well as with a 1.4-liter turbocharged engine generating 140 horsepower are still a very likely scenario while diesels will be represented by four Euro 5 compliant units to bring a maximum output from 95 to 160 horsepower.

Back in July, Opel announced that Meriva reached the 1 million unit mark, after the model was officially launched in 2003.

“Meriva has been beloved by customers – from singles to families to seniors – not only for its practicality, versatility and great looks, but also its reliability. German independent consultants TÜV recognized the Meriva with a “Best Quality” rating,"
Alain Visser, Vice President Opel, was quoted as saying in a press release last July.
