New Opel Astra Tuned by Irmscher

Even if the new Opel Astra is yet to be released, tuning houses around the world have started to produce aftermarket upgrades for the car which is expected to be at least as successful as the model it replaces. The first to launch such a kit is the German tuning company Irmscher who debuted a sports upgrade for the new Astra, making it a bit sportier and much more aggressive than the stock version.

No technical details are available at this point but, as we you can see in the photo gallery, the aftermarket kit comprises a front spoiler lip, a redesigned front grille plus new front and rear bumpers, with the later now housing four tailpipes. Autocar.co.uk writes that a new set of wheels available in sizes from 18- to 20-inches is also available.

Unfortunately, the tuning house hasn't released photos showing the interior, but the company will most likely debut a series of interior modifications as well. A lowered suspension is a very likely feature as well.

And speaking of suspensions, the new Astra will feature a new suspension system when it will go on sale in early 2010. The regular torsion beam rear end will now feature a Watt linkage which will result in better handling and enhanced stiffness.

“Opel’s unique expertise of making new technologies accessible in compact cars is really highlighted with this tenth generation. In addition, the new Astra carries the spirit of the Insignia into the compact segment with unprecedented passion and commitment to excellence,” says Alain Visser, Vice President of Opel.

The 2010 Opel Astra will be produced in Rüsselsheim, Germany for Europe and in Ellesmere Port for the UK. It is expected to enter production in the closing months of this year, with sales likely to commence in early 2010.
