Waze has become a must-have application for lots of drivers out there, and it’s all because of the large community that contributes with reports from all over the world, keeping the others in the know with what’s happening on the road ahead.
This is actually the engine that’s powering Waze and which allows the app to notify drivers of traffic jams, accidents, speed traps, and other things they need to be aware of when setting up a route.
But Waze isn’t the only app of its kind, as Flitsmeister is an application providing similar capabilities for Android, iPhone, and CarPlay users. And starting soon, for Android Auto users too.
Flitsmeister also provides drivers with warnings about speed cameras, speed check zones, traffic jams, accidents, roadworks, and others, though it’s not as international as Waze. At this point, Flitsmeister is focused on large European countries, such as the Netherlands, Belgium, and Germany, where the app already has over 1.7 million active users.
The parent company has recently announced an Android Auto version of Flitsmeister too, but the announcement was then pulled.
"We just published our press-releases a bit too early. It takes a bit more time for Google to review the app than we expected," one of the developers working on the app told us (in the comments section). "Google's still busy completing the AndroidX (Jetpack) library. We are not allowed to release to production before that's completed. It could take days, or weeks, nobody knows but Google."
In the meantime, a video and screenshots published by the dev team show Flitsmeister will land on Android Auto with the same feature lineup that sets it apart from the rest of the crowd, including accurate navigation for the entire Europe. You can thus use Flitsmeister just like Waze, as long as you live on the Old Continent.
Flitsmeister isn’t the only new navigation app coming to Android Auto, as several other large companies, including Sygic, announced plans to bring their software to the car experience. No ETA has been provided as to when Sygic could launch on Android Auto either.
