When Mitsubishi announced their decision to drop sedans, the automotive world lost an icon: the Lancer Evo. However, we're used to seeing the full half of the glass: their SUVs will become better and better.
It looks like Mitsubishi wants to get rid of sedans, which is a shame, but profit is profit and to survive, carmakers have to adapt. Just think of the crossover/SUV craze that's still haunting manufacturers looking to boost income.

Anyway, Mitsubishi wants to fill the gap left by the Lancer with a strong emphasis on SUVs, which, if you ask us, it a darn good idea. As a result, we should expect models like the new Mitsubishi Pajero to arrive shortly.

According to Autocar, the 2017 Mitsubishi Pajero is on its way, and it could adopt plug-in hybrid technology in an attempt to keep its off-road reputation - and capabilities - intact, while staying up to date with the latest automotive trends.

Mitsubishi are by no means strangers to plug-in hybrid powertrains. Last year in Geneva, the Japanese conglomerate revealed the GC-PHEV prototype, which is likely to inspire the upcoming Pajero SUV in terms of shapes and appearance.

The same sourced interviewed Lance Bradley, Mitsubishi Motors UK boss who was quick to explain that “a lot of the rivals are more beautiful or more refined but the Shogun [Pajero in the UK] needs to be an authentic off-roader: not fancy, not a school-run car but for people who tow horse boxes or actually go off-road."

As sad as it is to see the Mitsu Lancer Evolution leaving the international car stage, we are happy with the thought that Mitsubishi SUVs will become better and better, offering cheaper alternatives for the likes of Land Rover Discovery.
