New Mercedes-Benz E-Klasse W212 German Brochure Leak

A Mercedes-Benz enthusiast member of the motor-talk.de car forum has spilled the beans on the German brochure for the W212 E-Klasse. After two scans that were leaked back in December, practically everything there is to know about the new tri-star midsize sedan has hit the internet just yesterday. In other words, even though Mercedes-Benz recently announced that they will unveil the wraps on the W212 themselves in a week time, somebody took them by surprise and caught them with their pants down.

Since none of us here is actually fluent in German – we are only fluent in “cars”, or so we like to think - the only info we can tell you from the scanned brochure are the technical details and some observations taken from the exterior and interior photos. The engine range for Germany will offer from the start no less than eleven powerplants, five petrol and six oil burners.

The base petrol engine will have direct injection and will be sported by the E 200 CGI BlueEFFICIENCY model, offering 184 hp at the cost of 6.6 liters of fuel per 100 km (36 mpg US) in combined driving from a displacement of 1.8 liters. The next four petrol models are as follows: E 250 CGI BlueEFFICIENCY with 204 hp, E 350 BlueEFFICIENCY with 292 hp, E 350 4MATIC with 272 hp and all-wheel drive and E 500 with 388 hp – which is also available as a 4 MATIC model.

The smallest oil burner is to be found in the E 200 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY model, where it offers 136 hp and a fuel consumption of 5.3 liters per 100 km (44 mpg US) in combined driving. The other five diesels will be found in the E 220 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY with 170 hp, E 250 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY with 204 hp, E 350 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY with 231 hp, E 350 BlueTEC (the urea engine) with 211 hp and the E 350 CDI 4 MATIC with 224 hp.

Apparently the world economic crisis has turned “ze Germans” blue or something. In case you haven't overloaded with “blue” or “efficiency” yet, you can casually observe that the moniker is used on every engine choice except the petrol V8 and the 4 MATIC models. In other words, the rich (er) who will buy those don't care for the environment very much.

As for the looks of the new W212, all we can say that the opinions may vary from “love it” to “hate it” just by asking the other person. The new angular style is reminiscent of the old W124, so let's hope the build quality will be the same.

The brochure doesn't fill us in on the actual technology behind the new German saloon, but from the scanned pictures we can positively say that the manual six-speed transmissions will offer the only interiors with a center console gear lever, while the automatics will have the lever on the steering wheel, 'merican style.

The previously announced features are a revolutionary night vision system, a newer version of the Pre-Safe pre-collision system and a newly developed electronic stability program which can even detect crosswinds. Now all that remains is to wait until next week (or maybe just a few days) for the official Mercedes-Benz press release.
