We already know that Daimler's production of Mercedes-Benz cars is having trouble keeping up with demand, especially when talking about models based on the MFA (Modular Front-wheel drive Architecture) platform.
We also had a hunch about the Germans looking to sign yet another co-production contract with the Renault-Nissan Alliance concerning the GLA and the upcoming Infiniti Q30, but most of the information about that was surrounded by speculation.
Well, starting from today, that speculation is about to increase, as a German magazine claims that Daimler's executive board is set to approve in about two weeks the production of a Mercedes-Benz compact sedan AND the CLA at the Nissan factory in Aguascalientes, Mexico, along with the upcoming Infiniti compact crossover.
According to a report by Automotive News, who also quote the aforementioned German magazine, Mercedes-Benz will start production of cars in Mexico from 2017 -which doesn't exactly coincide with the launch of the next generations of MFA-based models with the exception of the B-Class - so we are suspecting that the current models will be made there in the beginning.
The really interesting bit is the talk about a Mercedes-Benz compact sedan other than the CLA, confirming once again that the next generation of the A-Class will also have a sedan variant to better fare against the Audi A3 Sedan and the future BMW 1 Series Sedan.
According to analysts at International Strategy & Investment (ISI), the joint annual production output in the Mexican facility is expected to be between 100,000 and 150,000 cars, at least half of which should be Mercedes-Benz models destined for the North American continent.
