This year will be very important for Mercedes-AMG GmbH, as the Affalterbach skunkworks team is on an all-out attack with new models that should bring both fans and more record-breaking sales in the upcoming months.
Among the most important all-new AMG models to be unveiled this year is the Mercedes-Benz C 63 AMG W205, which is set to hunt and bring down the new BMW M3 F80 in terms of both power and torque.
According to a recent report by the peeps at MB Passion, the model's unveil date is September 24, a little over a week before the 2014 edition of the Paris Motor Show and over a month before previous reports were saying (2014 LA Auto Show in November, ed).
Apparently, the dealerships will only get the C 63 AMG W205 in February 2015, while the C 63 AMG T-Modell S205 should arrive in April 2015, powered by the same engine.
Speaking of which, the upcoming Mercedes-Benz C 63 AMG is to sport a detuned version of the recently-unveiled four-liter V8 engine that will power the Mercedes-AMG GT (C190), with previous rumors suggesting that it should offer 476 hp and at least 600 Nm (443 lb ft) of torque in “standard” form.
Internally-codenamed M177 instead of M178 in the AMG GT, the twin-turbocharged V8 was created by bonding two M133 four-cylinder engines from the “45 AMG” series, a fact which can be easily verified by taking a look at the identical bores and strokes between the two powerplant.
As it seems, an S-Model variant of the new C 63 AMG may get the M178 version of the engine, with no less than 510 hp and 650 Nm (479 lb ft) of torque being transferred to the rear wheels via an electronically-controlled limited-slip differential, which should be standard on the S-Model.
