We'll be honest with you guys: the normal 2020 GLE is not the best-looking thing in the world. If the A-Class is a pebble washed up on the beach, this SUV is the boulder that fell and crushed your house.
However, the AMG body kit seems to work perfectly, adding smoothness and muscle just where it was needed. The most expensive version of the GLE is also the best looking: why are we not surprised?
Mercedes has already said goodbye to the old 5.5-liter AMG engine and has replaced it with the 4.0-liter. The soundtrack hasn't suffered much, and if the E63 S is any indication, neither will performance.
We're expecting this GLE 63 S, the one in our latest German spy video, to have the same output: 612 HP and 850 Nm of torque. Sure, it's going to lug around about 2.3 tons, but with more power and less weight than the G63, performance will b great.
The test prototype has camo in all the right places, accentuating its new bumpers and fender flares. It's got wider tracks, bigger tires and a lower stance than a normal GLE. You can also bet your insurance money that air suspension will keep this behemoth cornering flat.
You know what else has a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 that's hand-built by AMG? The GLC 63 Coupe. You can see one in the Walko spy video that was taken the same day as the GLE. Changes aren't what you'd call dramatic, just the usual headlight and bumper revisions.
The GLC will receive similar updates to the C63, such as a revised gearbox, drive models controlled via a sexy steering wheel knob and optional carbon interior trim. If you buy the GLC over the larger GLE, you'll surely miss out on the MBUX system. But with a more car-like platform, the little guy is lighter and just as fast at big brother.
