New Megane RS Trophy Joins Gumball 3000 Rally in Paris

The job of a hot hatch is never done. After having lapped the Nurburgring track in record time for a front-wheel drive car, the Renault Megane RS 275 Trophy just couldn't resist showing off a bit and joined the biggest supercar rally of the year.

From the black paint, it looks like this is the very car that broke the Nurburgring lap record. The #under8 hashtag displayed with pride over the rear bumper tells everybody gathered to check out the Gumball that this Renault is faster round that track than a C63 AMG coupe or a Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder. And that's saying something.

The 275 Trophy is a re-tuned version of the Megane RS that puts down 275 hp from a 2-liter turbocharged engine, thanks in part to a titanium exhaust system created by the masters at Akrapovic.

Chassis updates include a new fully adjustable Ohlins Road & Track damper set designed for track use. Also new are the alloy wheels and the semi-slick Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 developed for FWD track-specials like this one.

France has not been too kind of the Gumball 3000 rally. Police cracked down on road racers with the intent of banning anybody who brakes the law from driving in the country. Rapper Xzibit received a 750 euro fine and a driving ban after being caught speeding at 123 mph (198 km/h) on public roads. It's much the same story with famous DJ Deadmau5.
