Only a week after they released official photos of the car, production of the brand new Mazda6 starts at the Hofu 2 plant in Japan. The first car to roll off the like is not the US-bound sedan, but a European-spec Mazda6 Wagon, the first we’ve ever seen in full production form.
The new Mazda6 will now be built exclusively in Japan and exported from there. The current generation has been put together in Michigan, at a plant shared with Ford. The official debut will take place at the Moscow Auto Show this month, and after that it’s also expected at the Paris Motor Show in September.

The European version of the Mazda6 is offered with a 2.0-liter Skyactiv-G petrol engine and a six-speed Skyactive-Drive automatic transmission. A diesel should also be available there shortly, while the US will get a 2.5-liter engine as well.

I am deeply moved that production of the third generation Mazda6, the flagship model of our new-generation vehicles, starts in such an important year for us,” said the CEO of the company Takashi Tamanouchi.

“The new Mazda6 that starts rolling off the line today features both SKYACTIV TECHNOLOGY and KODO - Soul of Motion design. Its development represents the very best of our engineering capability and our uncompromising attention to detail,” he added.
