New Lancia Ads Prove Ypsilon Is the Last Word in Italian Chic

Lancia has released a pair of new commercial videos of the 2012 Ypsilon that made its official debut just a week ago at the Geneva Motor Show. The clear aim here was to create a link between the five-door supermini and all things fashion, luxury and posh, while also building on the reputation of the previous generation.

The model which preceded the 2012 specimen was known as more of a car for ladies with a taste for Italian luxury. While there is no getting away from the fact that much of this is still true, Lancia wanted to associate the successor with males as well. Not the kind that buy pickups and shotguns, but males non the less.

In the first video, suggestively called “Fashion World”, the Ypsilon is seen next to (or underneath) trendy young couples with a ‘dolce vita’ attitude. Meanwhile, the car is the main protagonist of the second video, tagged “New Ypsilon - Essence of Luxury”. Here we see some extra details of the interior, five-door configuration and two-tone paintjob.

At launch, the Ypsilon will come with a choice of four engines, depending on the market: a 1.2-liter petrol unit with 69 hp, a 0.9-liter turbocharged two-cylinder petrol with 85 hp, a 1.3-liter MultiJet II turbo diesel delivering 95 hp and a dual-fuel petrol-LPG 1.2-liter unit producing 69 hp. All petrols and diesels come with a Start&Stop system, while some models are also equipped with low rolling resistance tires developed by Goodyear.

The new Ypsilon, which will go on sale from June across the main European markets, will arrive starting from September under the Chrysler badge in Great Britain and Ireland.
