New KTM 1190 Promo Shows Even Less Adventure

Now, first things first: I really do like the older KTM adventure bikes, with the 950 and 99EFi ruling almost supreme in my personal rankings, so there's no bashing on the Austrians from me. It;s just the plain facts everyone can see.
KTM builds very nice machines and some of the olde ones have written thousands of pages of stories, traveling around the planet. But the new Adventure 1190 seems to get farther and farther from what “adventure” used to mean no longer than 6 to 10 years ago.

We really don't like the “sporty wheels” as they are shrinking to 19” for the standard version because it makes running on a 21” front rim sound like something exquisite. And it's not: it's just the way adventure bikes should be built - large front wheels with spokes and tubes, able to tackle the boulders.

Oh, but wait: what boulders? The new KTM 1190 video shows us a the bike traveling neatly on a road a Busa would do just great. And even more, any middleweight street motorcycle with enough touring accessories could be in 1190's place, to very much the same end.

Is this what has become of adventure motorcycling these days: neat asphalt on country roads? I beg to differ, because a Honda CBF600 with some side cases and a large roll pack on the tail would be more maneuverable on these winding roads and will offer better mileage.

This movie shows why I shouldn't even dream of trading in the 990 Adventure EFi for an 1190. Sorry KTM, but there still are guys who like wilderness and the bad rocky roads out there, and they don't like your new adventure as much as you hoped.
