First seen in the shape of the Light Weight Super Sport concept at the Japan Motor Show in 2015, the 2017MY Honda CBR250RR recently made it’s global debut in Indonesia, and it looks stunning for a quarter-liter bike.

Design wise, the new CBR250RR stays close to the concept, coming with sharp angles, an aggressive front end with split-eye headlights and daylight running lights, matte black finish with red accents and even a dual tailpipe configuration.

Speaking of the exhaust, that is linked to a new 250cc, 8-valve, liquid-cooled parallel-twin DOHC engine that is said to offer a smooth output across the entire rev range. So no, there are no official power numbers yet, but stay tuned for them.

What’s more important than that is the fact that Honda said its new quarter-liter is equipped with a Throttle-by-Wire (TbW) system, which confirms the speculated riding modes.

More features include a steel truss frame, carefully machined aluminum gull-type swingarm that allows the exhaust to be mounted inwards to reduce profile extrusion, USD suspension at the front, 5-step preloading Pro-link setup at the rear, 310 mm/240 mm brake discs front and back.

ABS is available as an optional feature, and it will be like that for the majority of markets, except Europe, where such systems are regulated to be offered as standard safety equipment. The dual LED headlights and full digital dashboard are standard everywhere.

Although not being specified yet, competing with the KTM RC250, Yamaha YZF-R25 and the Kawasaki Ninja 250, the 2017 Honda CBR250RR’s parallel-twin should output somewhere between 30 to 37 hp.

The CBR250RR will be built in Indonesia, following to go on sale in the South East Asian market by the end of the year, following to hit more markets next year. A more powerful 350cc model wearing the same body is expected to come and rival the likes of Yamaha’s R3, KTM’s RC390 or Kawasaki’s Ninja 300.
