New Front Splitter for 2011 NASCAR Season

The changes implemented by NASCAR in the past two years or so will continue throughout the 2011 season, when the first big change will involve a new front valance and splitter combination. According to NASCAR vice president of competition Robin Pemberton, the changes are needed to make the front less “utilitarian-looking” and more eye-friendly.

"It'll have a little more style in it, and I think people will like that. As we work forward, that's not the last change. We're looking on some stuff that actually has to coincide with the manufacturers and their introduction of new cars to sell," Pemberton was quoted as saying by NASCAR.

The old splitter, now three years old, is to be revised in light of the new Nationwide Series chassis to be adopted this season. The new one, as Pemberton says, will try and retain more of the manufacturer’s identities.

"There's always a cycle that you go through and you look for changes," Pemberton said. "We've been pretty occupied in the last two years in getting the new Nationwide car up and running. So everybody's been working on that, knowing that right on the heels of that, we'd be looking at upgrades and upfits to the Sprint Cup Series car."

As for the new look of the splitter, which will complete the spoiler change adopted this year, initial information points to it using more Nationwide-specific deign. It will be both more stylish and more effective.

"We did the spoiler this year, and next year, we'll do the front valance and spliter area, which is from mid-bumper down," Pemberton said. "It's a styling change. It'll give the manufacturers an opportunity to work on getting some subtle changes to the identity there. It's just time for an upfit there."
