New Ford Mustang NASCAR Xfinity Series Unveiled, Race Debut in February

On February 15, 2020, the newest interpretation of the Ford Mustang built to race in the NASCAR Xfinity Series will make its official debut, replacing the nearly 9-year old version currently fielded by teams. This week, the Blue Oval revealed the first images of the car, without having to say a word about the vehicle's performance and specs.

To compete against longtime rivals car from Chevrolet Camaro and race-bred Toyota Supra, the new NASCAR Mustang will not be any less potent than the current generation.

Presently, the Xfinity racer developed by Ford packs an engine that gives it 700 horsepower and 705 Nm of torque. In this configuration, the car won the driver’s championship three times (Ricky Stenhouse Jr. twice and Chris Buescher) and the owner’s title six times since 2011 (Jack Roush, Roger Penske four times, and Tony Stewart / Gene Haas).

The new race car will be built at the same facility and by roughly the same people that are working on the Shelby GT500.

“We’ve always talked about Mustang being a car that was born to race, and it’s been gratifying to see it performing so well in multiple series around the world,” said in a statement when presenting the car Mark Rushbrook, global director, Ford Performance Motorsports.

“It’s a credit to all of our engineers and teams that have worked so hard to make Mustang a championship contender right out of the box.”

Over the past year, Ford Performance unleashed four other motorsport-oriented Mustangs. The previous four are the one used in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series, the National Hot Rod Association Funny Car, Virgin Australia Supercars Championship, and the Cobra Jet.

The new car’s official racing debut will be during the Xfinity Series race at the Daytona International Speedway on February 15, 2020. We hope to learn more about the performance specs of the car until then.
