Well here it is. After a few weeks of teases, Ford Australia has just released its first full image of its new Ford Falcon XR8. The rest of the refreshed Falcon lineup will get styling updates, but this is definitely the model that has garnered the most attention recently.
Marking the last Ford vehicle locally produced in Australia, the Falcon is definitely going out on a high note with a fresh styling that blends some of the best elements of current Ford cars like Fusion and 2015 Mustang. This is most obvious up front where the face of the 2014 Falcon features popular Ford styling cues like the upright version of Ford’s signature trapezoidal grille and the narrow, angular headlights.

Unlike the rectangular headlights featured on many Ford designs, the Falcon will continue to have a distinctive look with the “double drop” design. While the overall styling will be the same across the entire Falcon line, Ford says that the XR-badged models (XR6 and XR8) will be easily distinguishable, and this starts with the headlights that receive dual LED daytime running lamp elements. These lights add an aggressive look to the front of the car, but we can’t help but think of the current Range Rover when we see it.

Other cues specific to the XR8 include its bulging powerdome hood, bigger wheels and a rear decklid spoiler. We only have this one image of the Falcon XR8, but Ford promises a rear diffuser, quad exhaust outlets and horizontal, LED taillights that help give the car a wider overall look.,

"We're very excited by the return of the XR8, as this badge has not been seen on a Falcon since 2010," he said. "Our enthusiasts have been asking for it so we've purposely revealed the Falcon XR6 and XR8 first," said Bob Graziano, president and CEO of Ford Australia.

There’s also no information yet about the XR8’s performance abilities, but we suspect that it will be a supercharged 5.0-liter V-8 providing gobs of horsepower and torque. Additionally, the most recent teaser video for the XR8 revealed that the car will come with performance brakes including cross-drilled rotors.

"Quite simply, we think this is the best Falcon ever. I just couldn't be more pleased with what the talented local team's been able to accomplish, I'm really proud of them," said Graziano.
