The UAW contract recently signed by Ford has proven to be some sort of informational holy grail. So far, it has allowed us to find out that the 2013 Shelby GT500 will get a new supercharged V8 engine with a displacement of 5.8 liters and that the Ford Transit van will be sold and produced in the US. Now, a new piece of info included the contract has surfaced: the Blue Oval is currently developing a downsized V6 engine.
According to Car and Driver, which managed to get a look at the documents before they were removed from the UAW website, the powerplant aims to be an industry-leading one, with a displacement of between 2.5 and 3 liters. It will use Ford Ecoboost tech such as turbocharging and direct gasoline injection to deliver over 300 hp and a maximum torque of 300 lb-ft.
The engine would be widespread across the Ford range, set to be used in the next generation of the Mustang, the F-150 pickup, Fusion, Taurus, Edge, Explorer and also Lincoln vehicles.
Asked about the matter, Ford said that such a unit would make sense and that, as an automotive producer, it is constantly developing new mills. We have to remind you that Ford already offers an Ecoboost V6, so the aforementioned engine could be a replacement for the current one.
