To start at £10,890 in Great Britain, the 2016 Fiat 500 facelift will be offered at launch in three trim levels: Pop, Popstar or Lounge. Be it the normal tin-top or soft-top convertible, the updated Cinquecento comes with Euro 6-compliant engines. The range starts with a 69 horsepower 1.2-liter and continues with an 85/105 horsepower 0.9-liter TwinAir two-cylinder turbo.

In addition to those powerplants, the 1.2-liter will be offered in petrol-LPG EasyPower form. Soon after launch, a 95 HP 1.3-liter MultiJet II turbo diesel will become available for those that don’t get the essence of a chic city car like the Fiat 500. As for transmission options, the standard manual is complemented by a Dualogic automated-manual with its shifter shaped to resemble a self-pleasure toy from an R-rated shop.

There’s no update for the Abarth-ified Cinquecentos just yet, but fret not. Until the hotter 500s arrive, buyers of the normal model can choose from 13 body colors, eight 15 and 16-inch alloy wheels, as well as 10 interior configurations. As we are on the hardware front, we need to highlight the availability of two-zone auto climate control, parking sensors, auto-dimming rearview mirror, as well as a Uconnect 5-inch Radio Nav LIVE touchscreen infotainment system with TomTom 2.5D maps.

Magnetti Marelli is probably the main supplier for the new Fiat 500. The company developed and/or produced the instrument panels, front and rear lighting systems, shocks and suspension system, exhaust, electronic control units, intake manifold, and Dualogic robotized transmission, in addition to the pedal box, dashboards, and other plastic components. Fitted as standard with seven airbags, even the most basic engine options of the 2016 Fiat 500 facelift now feature “oversized [brake] discs.”

On the styling front, only the central air vents and infotainment unit that make a visual difference over the pre-facelift Fiat 500. But on the outside, things are genuinely modernized. The 3.57-meter long, 1.63-meter wide, 1.49-meter tall car boasts with the same 2.3-meter wheelbase as before, but the devil is in the details. The round headlamps with polyeliptical clusters, LED DRLs, trapezoidal nose, and 3D grille with chrome buttons flanking chrome brightwork are the name the game here. LEDs are also used for the taillamps.
