Swedish carmaker Volvo announced it has developed a new fast charging solution in partnership with Siemens that allows their C30 "Generation II" EV to be brimmed with electricity in just 1.5 hours.
Once the car is fully charged, it has enough juice from its 22 kW battery to run for 164 kilometers (102 miles), according to the NEDC certification driving cycle. Furthermore, for people who are really in a hurry, 20 kilometers (12 miles) of range can be added in just 10 minutes.
Volvo says charger is the first such system that operates on the three-phase power supply and can is small enough to be mounted inside the car.
A fleet of 100 electric Volvo C30s will enter trials with lease customers in Europe starting this summer. The new Siemens electric motor fitted to the cars will make them quite sporty, launching the Swede from o to 70 km/h in just 5.9 seconds thanks to a 89 kW (120 hp) and 250 Nm (184 lb-ft) output.
