Since the 4 Series range was updated, BMW announcing 3 new engines for the new Coupe available starting this autumn, the F15 X5 couldn't be left behind. Therefore, the Germans announced they will be offering 4 new model variants.
Unlikely to make it to the States, most of the variants announced are diesels: the sDrive25d, xDrive25d, xDrive40d and one petrol unit, the xDrive35i. The latter is already available for order in the US but the rest will be new.

Currently, the only diesel in the US is the xDrive35d model but it's the old, E70 version and not the new one. As for the F15 X5, the sDrive25i is sold only in the US, a RWD 306 HP beast that will prove most fun over the years.

Knowing that RWD is a BMW characteristic, the German company decided to launch 2 variants will this type of transmission, making the F15 the first X5 to have power sent only to 2 wheels. The sDrive and xDrive 25d models use a 2-liter diesel engine (another first for the SAV) with 218 HP and 450 Nm (332 lb-ft) of torque, returning 40-41 mpg.

In the case of the xDrive35i model, the X5 has 306 HP and 400 Nm (332 lb-ft) of torque and returns a fuel consumption of 8.5 l/100 km (27 mpg) whilst the CO2 emissions will be still at 199 grams per km.

The last variant announced, the xDrive40d uses a 3-liter N57 engine with 2 turbochargers and 313 HP (650 Nm of torque), an 8-speed automatic gearbox and a fuel consumption of 6.2-6.3 l/100 km (38-39 mpg).
