New Engine and Styling Pack for VW Scirocco in the UK

The British division of Volkswagen made an announcement today that will most likely give Scirocco fans a reason to be happier in the year to come. Volkswagen UK therefore announced that a more affordable Scirocco, with a new engine and styling package, is hitting the market next year.

Beginning January 4, 2010, the Scirocco will be available for order with a new entry-level engine, namely a 1.4-litre TSI, with prices starting at £18,860 RRP on the road.

The new power unit develops 122 horsepower and 147 lbs ft of torque. Still front-wheel drive, the Scirocco houses a six-speed manual gearbox that helps the car accelerate from naught to sixty in 9.7 seconds before reaching a top speed of 124 mph. Well, what did you expect from this small capacity engine? However, the Scirocco returns a combined economy figure of 44.1 (mpg UK) and CO2 emissions of 146 g/km, making it the cleanest petrol model in the range.

The new entry-level model also benefits from numerous standard equipment including a six-CD autochanger with iPod preparation, rain and dusk sensors, a multifunction computer, air conditioning and 17-inch ‘Donington’ alloy wheels as well as a host of safety features including ABS, ESP (Electronic Stabilisation Programme) and six airbags. Moreover, Adaptive Chassis Control (ACC) is also available on this model as a £765 option.

Volkswagen has also announced a new optional styling pack available on Scirocco GT models for the New Year. The new ‘Lugano Black’ package comprises 10-spoke 19-inch ‘Lugano’ alloy wheels finished in gloss black with additional Piano Black decorative inserts throughout the cabin, and priced at £950.
